Hardscaping & Driveways
Transform your outdoor space with elegant patios, durable driveways and landscaping that reflects your home. JFD delivers hardscaping across Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex.
Whether you are after an elegant patio perfect for family gatherings, or looking to boost your home's kerb appeal with a new driveway, we create outdoor spaces that complement your lifestyle and add lasting value.
From groundworks and drainage to paving, walling and finishing, every project is built to last and finished to a high standard.
Why do proper groundworks matter?
A patio or driveway is only as good as what lies beneath it. We excavate to the right depth, lay and compact a proper sub-base, and get the falls and drainage right before a single slab or block goes down. Skip those stages and you get sinking, pooling and weeds within a season — which is exactly what we are paid to avoid. On the clay-heavy soils common across West Sussex and Hampshire, getting the sub-base and drainage right is the difference between a driveway that lasts twenty years and one that fails in two.
What makes a driveway last?
We install block paving, resin-bound, gravel and natural stone driveways, each built on an engineered base with edge restraints and the right drainage strategy. Where a new driveway would otherwise drain onto the road, we design in a permeable surface or soakaway so the job complies with planning rules and your garden does not flood.
What can you build for patios and outdoor living?
From porcelain and natural stone patios to garden walls, steps and raised beds, we build outdoor spaces that work as an extra room in the warmer months. Most patios and driveways take one to three weeks depending on size, access and materials — we will give you a firm programme before we start.
FAQ
Hardscaping & Driveways — frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
If you use a permeable surface, or direct water to a soakaway or border, you generally do not need planning permission. Permission is usually required only where more than five square metres of impermeable surface drains directly onto the road. We design driveways to comply either way.
How long does a driveway or patio take?
Most projects take one to three weeks depending on size, ground conditions, access and materials. We provide a clear programme and keep the site tidy throughout.
What materials do you work with?
Block paving, resin-bound, gravel, porcelain and natural stone for driveways and patios, plus brick and stone for walls, steps and raised beds — chosen to suit your home and budget.
